In this example below a fairly small courtyard appears much larger than reality with the design of separate zones to segregate one area from another. Wide-placed stepping stones, filled in between with small pebbles, visually expand the impression of space while the seating area is surrounded by lush greenery and topped with a pergola to make it usable in all seasons.

This open-plan living space incorporates a living room, dining room and kitchen as well as access to the alfresco entertaining space. When planning this home renovation, the owners were keen to reduce visible boundaries yet keep a clear definition between each of the rooms. This was achieved by the use of floor-to-ceiling open screens in natural timber to match the style of the home as well as reflect the natural tones from outside.
